Kathleen began quilting at the age of five, learning the craft from her mother and grandmother. She is especially drawn to intricate and mathematical piecing and custom quilting, where precision, creativity, and problem-solving come together.

Kathleen’s quilts have been accepted into numerous shows (casual flex), and she finds just as much joy in sharing the art as she does in making it. Some of her favorite quilts are ones she has helped beginners make themselves. In real life, she’s a teacher, which means beginners are in very good hands (ha at least we hope hope!). Kathleen genuinely loves breaking down new techniques and helping quilters realize they can do the hard stuff after all.

Coming from backgrounds in STEM, Anthropology, and the Arts, Kayla finds quilting to be the perfect intersection of these interests: merging mathematics and precision, cultural tradition and historical context, and creative expression. While a relatively novice quilter, she is a dedicated advocate for the education, camaraderie, and community the guild provides.

Above all, Kayla values the incredible diversity of the craft: the fact that no two quilts are alike and that every maker brings different techniques to the table. Kayla is proud to found a guild that offers community and celebrates the unique voices within it.

Julia learned to sew in 2024, and to quilt in 2025, and then it was (as they say) all over for you hoes. She is excited to expand her sewing and quilting skills and create a welcoming guild environment where everyone can grow and thrive.  She lives on earth and has a cat.

Emily started her sewing and quilting journey after her dad passed away and she made a t-shirt quilt out of his shirts. After finishing her first quilt, she pivoted to other non-quilting, but still sewing related projects, which can be found in local book stores in the Milwaukee area.

Since joining a group of local quilters, Emily’s interest in quilting has increased significantly. She loves using fabrics of all colors and themes, but is drawn to jewel tones and fabric that matches the interests of the recipients of her quilts or other sewn products. She is drawn to quilt patterns that are way above her skill set. As Emily is a self taught sewer, she tackles projects with stubborn determination and the belief that she can figure it out (maybe now with the help of her quilting friends).

She is excited to be a part of the SEW Modern Quilt Guild, learn more about quilting and quilting techniques, and build a community of people who love creating.

Dana learned to sew in 2020 and began quilting in 2022. Before making her first quilt, she became involved in online quilting communities that sparked her interest in quilting as an art form. She began with simple designs and continues to expand her repertoire by exploring more complex techniques. Dana enjoys incorporating thrifted and repurposed materials into her projects and is drawn to bold fabrics and modern, scrappy quilt designs.

As a founding member of the SEW Modern Quilt Guild, she hopes to help others find joy and confidence in quilting.

Amanda began quilting because her hobby is starting hobbies. She made her first quilt in 2016 and has since made over 40, with wildly varying quality. As someone who feels genetically unartistic, the structure of quilting helps Amanda feel creative without, you know, needing to draw or something similarly terrifying.

Amanda helped found the SEW Modern Quilt Guild because she feels social groups are extremely important for mental health. Amanda hopes to encourage all crafters to explore quilting through our community.

Melanie was first introduced to quilting in 2015 when she made her first joyful stripes quilt and log cabin quilt. Ready to expand her quilting skills and make new friends, she was thrilled to help establish SEW Modern Quilt Guild.

Being part of a quilting community has reignited her passion for creating beautiful quilts with fresh new ideas and supportive friendships. Melanie enjoys playing with different color combinations and believes the best quilts are a true expression of its creator.
